Announcing Savannah Fund’s 3rd Accelerator Class
Savannah Fund is proud to introduce our third accelerator class: BIGxGh (Ghana), UniSmart (Nigeria) and Zevan Limited (Kenya).
BiGxGh.com is Ghana’s number one music website, founded by Prince Boakye Boampong. The site empowers Ghanaian musicians by providing them with a platform to display their art to Ghana music fans worldwide. BiGxGh.com has become the go-to online destination for Ghana music related content and a promotional powerhouse for both established and up-and-coming artists. In 2013, the site had over 20 million site views. The most downloaded song on the website has over 523,000 downloads. BiGxGh.com has been able to accumulate one of the largest communities of Ghana music enthusiasts on the Internet and serves as a direct-link between artists and their fans. Google Ghana ranked “BiGxGhTV” as one of “Top 4 YouTube Channels in Ghana.”

Nigeria-based UniSmart is a student loyalty platform, connecting verified Nigerian students with local and national discounts and deals. Founded by Frederik Obasi, UniSmart allows Nigerian students to redeem perks at the point of sale both on line and in store. Since launching in February, they’ve worked with international brands, such as Nike, Puma, Levis and United Colors of Benetton. With over 1000 users, UniSmart has partnered with leading Nigerian institutions, such as University of Lagos, Nigeria’s largest university with over 45,000 students.

Accelerating their product SokoShambani, Zevan Limited is a Kenya-based startup founded by Stephen Kimiri. It features a return-trip systemization and optimization platform (RTSOP), which enables farmers to access affordable delivery transports by rerouting empty return trips to pick up deliveries and send crops to populations that purchase them. So far, there are 3 major logistic companies using this service and SokoShambani has been able to reroute 177 trips.

These three startups were chosen from 95 total applications. 54.25 percent of these applications has technical co-founders (which we require), while 71.27 percent of applications had a URL presence, up 4.6 percent from the last class.
